Today at WildFest, you’ve been given a seed that has the potential to become part of Cambridgeshire’s future landscape. Here’s exactly how to grow it at home.
🪴 Step 1 – Plant Your Seed
Choose a pot: Start with a small pot with drainage holes and peat‑free compost. Sow your seed: Pop it just below the surface — around a fingertip deep. Water gently: Keep the soil moist, but not waterlogged. Give it light: A bright spot is perfect, but avoid harsh direct sun.
🌿 Step 2 – Let It Grow
Over the first year, your seedling will grow slowly — this is normal for native species. Keep watering regularly and repot as it grows – this helps it build a strong, healthy root system.
🏡 Growing Your Tree at Home
No garden? No problem. Your tree can stay in a pot for the first 1—2 years. A balcony, patio, or sunny windowsill is perfectly suitable for its first year.
🎁 Donate Your Tree
When your young tree is ready for its next chapter, you can donate it to the Tree Nursery at Hinchingbrooke Country Park. Your tree will be cared for, grown on, and eventually planted as part of a local habitat restoration.
